I did exactly the same thing! I Googled Swedish Olympic Crochet Hat because I loved it so much and wanted to make one. Can we find someone to translate this pattern into English? Or, can we buy the pattern in English somewhere? Thanks for this photo - it's a start!

You're welcome. It was the magic of the webs. ;) I've tweeted it like crazy, so many by the end of today or tomorrow? We'll see. :)

It appears to be thick wool, mostly American single crochet.
I think the rounds are 5 gold, 3 white, 1black, 4 blue, 4 gold, 1 white in double crochet, 1 black in double crochet, and 4 blue in single crochet again.
This is based on Google translator and zooming in on these pics on NBC - <a href="http://www.nbcolympics.com/photos/galleryid=423895.html#medal+ceremony+mens+pursuit" rel="nofollow">www.nbcolympics.com/photos/galleryid=423895.html#medal+ce...</a>

I actually wrote to the "Sveriges Olympiska Kommitté" Swedish Olympic Committe, and from what I was able to gather, this is half-double crochet design made from wool. The band at the bottom is fleeced, to provide extra warmth on some versions. Moreover, the only way to obtain one of these hats is by start saving in the Olympic fund at the Swedish bank of Nordea.

Highway12 - you are awesome! Great info. Sadly, I only put my funds in Swiss accounts, so I'll have to make my own. ;)

I think these are coolest hats I have ever seen. How long would it take you to make one of these hats? They are made from "100 percent wool, and are to be dry cleaned only." This leads me to believe that they are very well made hats.

Not too long, because they are made with pretty thick wool yarn. 2 or 3 hours, I'd guess. If you don't crochet as often, maybe up to 6 hrs.. They want you to dry clean only b/c otherwise the hat will shrink and you'll end up with mini felt hat. :)

I found the pattern. The pattern in the picture above has a lot of errors (i.e. stating that its a SC and not a HDC, the huge increase 64 stitches is way too wide), and the second white stripe is actually one row, not two). You can see these if you study the REAL hat in pictures of Swedish Olympic athletes wearing the hat. Here is a link to a ravelry person's website who posted a great translation and corrections:
